WHEN ART MANIPULATES ECONOMY - Studio JEFRE
Jefre Manuel the designer of many public art
masterpieces in Chicago and now breaking through Asia has payed Qatar a visit in lecture hosted by Architects Hub Qatar.
At VCU -Verginia commonwealth university of Qatar foundation. Jefre Manual introduced his works and methods with group of professions, academics and students in an engaging and exciting talk.
After attending the AA - Architectural Association School of architecture - in London JEFRE developed interest in organic designs as he believed living things develop to survive thus architecture must follow a similar scheme. After that he started experimenting with landscape design and site furniture.
2008 was his breakthrough where he was given the Designer Award of Merit by the AIA in 2008 and launched his public art and landscape couture studio.
His studio as he described is a blank space for artists and designers to create their work in addition to getting a drink. Architects, musicians and artists all in one space the caters creativity at its most.
JEFRE designs both beatify and create solutions on site. the car parking project is a great example about how art can greatly affect the economy. In Florida at Lake Nona medical city, jefre was called to cover a badly designed car-park building and make it look "pretty". yet JEFRE found an innovative solution by creating a "space" where users interact and create experiences, which is the soul of architecture.
The design came out as a reflection of the culture and character of the community of Lake Nano medical city which is innovative community and one of the fastest growing master-designed communities in America.
The stair well became a canvas where artists can creative their own digital themes and demonstrate it on the stairs. The space drastically changed to be an iconic spot for pictures, events, parties and even weddings. Prices of nearby restaurants and rooms facing the car parking building became high just for the sake of that incredible view.
His designs mirrors his passion about creating experiences with his sculptures, add a value to the space, reflect history and culture in addition to provide economic rise or solutions. Taking new challenges is what distinguish JEFRES' work; he moved from landscape, street furniture, sculptures , landmarks , buildings reaching to jewelry where he recently got selected for designing MissWorld2017 crown.
