BIM strikes again : Expert Insights! Building Information Modelling-BIM & Artificial Intelligenc

Again Architects Hub Qatar comes to us with new event to share with you all the importance of BIM in the field of architecture and design.

As a smart tool BIM is , it brings up all the questions about what is it, how can we use it and weather it will take over or no ?!.

The answer came with the cooperation between Qatar university- college of engineering and Architects Hun Qatar. Experts from the field Dr.Djamel Ouahrani,Assistant Professor at Qatar University, Architect Imran Mohammad - BIM Manager at Arab Engineering Bureau and Engineer Motasem Albanna, civil engineer, BIM expert.

Covering hot topics like BIM COMPETENCY IN QATAR, DECIPHERING BIM AND WHY IT IS IMPERATIVE FOR FUTURE EMPLOYABILITY and ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE INTUITION. the experts gave a brief yet detailed description about the nature of BIM software and how they contribute in providing better execution and data for architects to work with after the conceptual design is made. Even though during that phase it can help both clients and architects have a detailed look into the project if they are interested in lighting and material analysis of the buildings.

As Mr.Imran highlighted BIM is not only working with Revit several software can work with it to provide structural and sustainability data; ETABS, ECOTECT, DIALUX and many more. another point was highlighted is LOD , when working with BIM softwares projects are categorized according to the development level they reach.

LOD = iLOD + eLOD [ Level of development = information level of detail + element level of detail ]

is the key while working on project using BIM, from 1D which focuses on strucutre till 6D & 7D that highlights the fire rating and sustainability aspect in the design of the project.

Qatar mainly use Revit & Tecla as BIM systems in their projects, where several huge and successful projects in Qatar had used BIM systems and it was reflected on the greatness of the projects and success :

As BIM systems is considered a smart system, the lecture took another turn - Artificial Intelligence. describing how now machines can predict and make decisions, execute in the architecture field. will they take over our jobs as designers and architects. Giving the example of an old Chinese game champion who was beaten by an artificial intelligence tool called : AlphaGo, the question is raised to another level if machines could learn from us and its mistakes then develop and take our place at work !!!!

The best way to handle such a rapid development in the field is to co-op with it, it might mean we need to learn more , accept new methods at work and develop our skills so we can be part of this development not get isolated in the name of defending our major and field; we will only harm our selves as individual architects not the industry because simply it wont stop developing !!
